Just my opinion, but I would want to see or hear the engine before I buy it unless it was a dealer with a guaranty. IF I am going there, I'd load it and haul it home.
If that isn't possible, I would revisit the idea of getting your tired engine redone by a local reputable machine shop that way you know what you have and what it will cost to get there. Lots of engines get a half way job done and new paint all to be sold and wear out in a few miles.
