IH 404 Firing order
Posted by Jay (ND) on June 07, 2006 at 14:38:46 from (188.8.131.52):
A few days ago a lady was looking for the firing order for a 404. I've never visited the truck side of this forum before, but I was looking for the same info and did a search and found her question and Buzz's answer. I was getting a lot of confusing info, and my own owners manual seemed wrong. The owners manual is right, but the difference is in the rotation and how the cylinders are numbered. Thanks to Buzz's links, I found the right info.
On an IH 404, the firing order is 1 2 7 3 4 5 6 8, and the cylinders are numbered (from front to rear) 1 3 5 7 on the passenger side and 2 4 6 8 on the drivers side. The rotor rotates counter-clockwise.
I hope this helps someone in the future. Unfortunately, firing order wasn't my problem. Oh well, next step.
