Water pump went out on 1986 F250 351WPosted by Jak on June 28, 2006 at 14:54:36 from (208.47.17.47):
My water pump went to leaking out of the hole on the bottom.I bought a reman and commenced to taking the old water pump off.I got down to the last few bolts and one didn't want to come out. This bolt was metric and was on the drivers side water outlet. It broke off.I had some stud left but it too broke off eventually flush with the aluminum housing.I guess it was from the aluminum getting that crust on it.Being I was on a time frame I put some of that ultra black sealant on it and installed it without that particular bolt.It isn't leaking but I sure hated that happened.Have youall had that happen before?I like my Ford but I would much rather put a water pump on a Chevrolet smallblock anyday that tear into another one of those like mine.Everything on the front of the engine is connected to the water pump it seems like.Oh well I thought I would share this with you.I should have went ahead and installed the fuel pump while I had it down, watch it be next.Jack(TN).
