Andy had lots of good info but I wanted to add some to the mix. When we did this kind of switch, we had a 4 speed tranny in the 66. It was the original tranny as dad bought it new that way. The 350 was replacing the 250 which is the same size as a 230 as to how it fits. The wiring will change some because the alternator is not near the coil for example. Your oil guage system will be different for the same reason. I believe the motor mount system will actually be the easy part of the whole ordeal. You will be lucky if your 350 comes with the clutch and the housing then it would bolt right in. You need a bigger radiator, try to get the fan from the donor 350 and the wiring problem isn't any problem if you can get the engine harness from a donor V-8 truck of that era as I think they are a pretty simple plug in trick. We needed to extend the oil guage line because the fitting was at the front of the motor on the 350 so we got the compression fittings from the hardware store and some more line and it was really simple. The gear ratio probably is lower in the 230 system. THat 350 would really wind up and smoke tires without trying. Make sure your battery has enough CCA's to turn your new motor. Good luck on the project.
