I had something like this on a 54 ford 6cyl. It was a bad plug wire(carbon). Check each wire on an ohmmeter. Seems like 2000 ohms per foot. Also crimps on ends could be open and spark could still jump across. Had a set of Sears wires that all 8 were bad. Crimped terminals tight and all were good. Old mechanic no longer with us told me this could also be caused by head gasket allowing couple drops of coolant into combustion chamber. Could plug gaps be too wide? Please tell us what happens. Copper wires should read like 0-3 or 4 ohms max.
