Carburator

I just bought on epay a carburator that was said to be taken off from a 1971 Ford p/u six cylinder240, I think it was. I was wanting to put it on a 1986 Ford p/u 300 six cylinder but found that the mounting stud holes are about a quarter inch closer together on the older carb. What can I do to make this thing fit, anything?
