OT- money-saving tip on later model Chevy/GMCPosted by daveinpoway on August 30, 2006 at 12:16:22 from (72.197.192.39): This pertains to a later model than normally covered here, but it could still be of use. On a 1995 Chevy/GMC full-size van, 350 engine with A/C (don't know what other applications this would apply to), if the accessory drive belt idler pulley (located under the alternator) needs replacing, the cost is over $100, since the dealer only sells the pulley with the bracket that it is bolted to. However, the pulley portion of the belt tensioner assembly is the same as the idler, and you can buy the tensioner for about $60. When removing the pulley from the new tensioner, remember that the bolt is left-hand thread (turn CLOCKWISE to loosen). The threads may also have some locking compound on them, so a long breaker bar will help.
