I have a 1936 Chevy 1.5 ton, and it has hydraulic brakes. I have heard that 36 was the first year for the hydraulic brakes, and I believe it. There is very little room to operate a wrench to bleed the cylinders on the back axle (duals) because the springs are over so close to the backing plates.

I would expect that this problem was corrected in later models, because it is almost impossible to get in there on the 36. I was also told that the 36 had a bad problem with broken rear axle shafts. My truck came with a spare axle shaft under the seat.

I would look for much a much later rear axle, like from the 50's or 60's, since I think that axle would be easier to get parts for. Good luck!
