If you are on 12 volt, you need a resistor in the sending switch circuit to get the needle to read where you want it. Make sure you are not overheating first. Buy a little pocket thermometer and check the coolant temp with cap off. It will run hotter this way because of no pressure. If boils then you engine is overheating. Remove cap before starting so you don't get burned. BTDT. It hurts and embarasses.
