1980 Chevy 250 emission plumbing

Hi Everybody;
I just bought a one-owner 1980 Chevrolet 1/2T 4x4 w/ 250 six cyclinder and automatic. That poor lil' engine seems just about choked with all the original emission plumbing. Question is: How much of that junk can be safely removed, without adversly affecting things?
