60's Chevy trucks-bumper painted or crome?

Ive got a 1966 Chevy truck 3/4 ton. It cam from the factory with a white painted front & rear bumper. The rear bumper is really light weight, so I went to a wrecking yard and got a heavy rear bumper off a 66' 3/4 ton chevy truck. The heavier bumper I got is crome, but rusted. My original plans were to have it sand blasted and painted white to match the front bumper. My paint & body guy is about 60 years old and says he's been restoring these old trucks all his life.
He says I should have the heavier bumper re-cromed, because thats how they came with a painted front bumper and a crome rea bumper?
Is that correct?
Thanks - Rp in Texas.
