Sandy, the 56 GMC should already be 12 volt positive ground, but if it is still 6 volt you have it pretty much done, the 6 volt GMC radio won't like neg. ground. If the truck is 6 volt and you are only changing to neg. ground, there is nothing to be gained, ign. system really works better pos. ground with hotter spark, that is why most all systems were pos. ground then. Starter, gauges, switches and wires don't care which way battery is hooked.
