Sandy: Save yourself alot of headaches by going to the one-wire hook-up alternator. The electronic ignition is not necessary, but it does justify installing because of the benefits of not having to buy points or having your points stuck together. You really could keep your truck with positive ground, but the whole idea is to bring that truck up to date and not have to worry about any problems. My dad used to use the two plug extension cord--sometimes he plugged it in with a negative ground and sometimes he plugged it in with a positive ground. When he had it plugged in with the positive, he would get quite a few shocks--he always bragged he could take the shocks!! Farmers could never figure out why their batteries were going dead when they dropped their plows or dragging a chain. That's exactly what they were doing--taking a positive ground and making it a negative.
