It sounds like you need a new accelerator pump diaphragm. (It is UNDERNEATH the front of the carb.)

A REAL autoparts store will be able to get you either just the diaphragm, or a complete carburetor kit, which will have the diaphragm in it.

I'm also in ND. Shoot me an email, if you have any trouble locating a diaphragm.
