another advantage the hemi(chryslers version)has is the central location of the spark plug...this allows a even burn of the fuel/air mixture across the cylinder starting from the center...this causes an even push on the piston top & results in less friction...wedge & poly engines have the plug in the side of combustion chamber & the burn starts from there...the push,for just a fraction of a second,is on the edge of the piston top...this cocks the piston just slightly in the bore & drags the piston skirt on the cylinder wall causing more friction...more friction = less power...you can see this as a wear pattern on high milage engines piston skirts...look at the bottom of skirt opposite plug location...
