Not a simple answer.The slats vary in width and if grain of wood is not correct they will cup and warp in short time.The grooves for the metal strips are also specially milled to allow for fit,and expansion/contraction.Not as simple as it looks,one of the reasons so many were replaced with diamond plate or plywood overlays.Kits are available.Also check classicd chevy truck sites..I know a couple of em have bed rebuilding info.
