It must be grounded to work correctly. The amp gauge only reads amps entering or leaving the battery,it does not care if the current is 6 or 12 volts. leave it as it is. The amp gauge must NOT be connected through the CVR. Sounds like your doing fine with your 12V conversion,good luck and keep us informed of your progress.
