78 C60-Rochester Carb

Posted by pbutler on December 19, 2006 at 11:20:55 from (199.249.176.251):

I have a 78 C60 grain truck-has the V8 w/2bl rochester carb. Truck gets 600-1000 miles per year-all in about a 6 week period-sits most of other 48 weeks.

Carb is getting old and I had a couple problems with float sticking this fall-had to pull it apart 2x in the field and destroyed the seals-but got through the year running a little rough.

Now the time has come to either rebuild or replace that carb.

I guess I have a couple questions:
1) Can I get a Holly or Edlebrock that will just mount on-or am I going to have to change intake manifold.
2) Is replacing that old Rochester with something else going to give it quite a bit more power and/or make it run that much different?
3) Current system has that old oil bath air filter-I hate it and am always spilling oil-so that thing has to go one way or the other.

Final concern is maintenance-I would prefer something as easy to set up as possible-and mount on current manifold-but if necessary I would take the short term pain if I am not going to have to mess with it for a longer time.

Any advice would be much appreicated!

Paul
