I couldn't agree more on taking it apart, I have a forklift that's been apart for about 6 years, it sure would be handy to use it. Anyway, Rustoleum makes a cold galvanizing spray on. That spray on cold galvanizing must work because around 26 years ago I was working on a construction job in a freezer at a meat packing plant. The FDA was specific in how everything could be done. All the racks were welded in place. I chipped the slag off the welds, and with no other preparation, sprayed the cold galvanizing over the welds.
