Back then, 30 weight was probably considered a standard. In my 71, I use 10-40 or 20-50. 5w-30 is too thin. The thing with these older trucks, with carbs and no computers, is like when they were new, you have to let them warm up for ten minutes or so before you drive them, so the oil warms up too. Never got good oil pressure from my engine, 350, you need minimum 10 pounds per 1,000 rpms. With thinner oil, my pessure was down, so I use 20-50. Good luck.
