This is my first post to this group. Got sent here by a member of the Ford N group, did not realise site existed. I have a 1978 Chev 3/4 ton 350 V8 4 speed 145000 km, had it since about 1984. Have replaced rear springs, radiator, fuel tank etc etc. The engine is getting a little tired and the gearbox is making some noise, but it does run fine, even past the clean air test. I need it to haul my 7400 lb sailboat on a 2600 lb gooseneck trailer over the Cascade mountains to the coast. I am in Kelowna BC. Other work that the truck does is hauling 100 bales of hay or 10 small cows in the gooseneck trailer. This is short haul and 12000 lbs max. It does this OK and also hauls the horses in the gooseneck and the camper if required. I can get the engine rebuilt for about $1000- Cdn. could get it bored and a better cam etc. It has been suggested that a 5 speed Muncie gearbox would work. Any info on this gearbox and any comments would be appreciated. The 4 speed ratios in the current gearbox are the pits. Any thoughts on putting in a deisel ? If a deisel used half the amount of fuel as the 350 gas motor I would save about $400- a year on fuel times 24 years. Thanks Michael Casling BC Mike C
