The garden tractor forum here has been awesome, thought I might try my luck here with some truckers.. I have a 1990 Ford Turbo-Diesel 8.7 Liter overheating. In the past the temp would come up to overheat, for a minute... then drop back to the operating range. The t-stats check ok, never low fluid in the plastic reservoir on top of radiator, changed fluid filter, removed radiator found no restriction, fins clean, fan clutch has good resistance. The top radiator hose gets hot and pressurized but the lower hose feels cool without pressure. Very little heat on radiator fins, insufficient heater core temp when operating in normal temp range to supply hot water to cab heater. So far I can't remove water pump, as a cast portion of the water pump housing inserts into front of the motor, but will only slide out about 1/4 of an inch from the mating face while gently prying. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions on how to find this problem. Your help is much appreciated ...Ed in Va.
