Looking for Overdrive Option for 1986 GMC C-60

I hope I am posting in the right place. I am hoping someone can
help, we have been having a nightmare of a time with this truck
and I think we are almost done, but I need to find a proper
gearing option. It is a 1986 GMC C-60 that had a 366 with a
Spicer 5 speed and a single speed rearend. It now has a 454 in
place of the 366 and tops out at about 57MPH. I was told it
would be $3000 to change the rearend gears, or about $3000
for a "Divorced" Under/Overdrive unit, and am looking for a
better and less expensive option.

I appreciate any help or ideas.
