What breaks inside a differential?

[ View Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Return to Forum ]

Posted by Randy on August 21, 2002 at 07:34:28 from (66.84.135.200):

The front diff. went out on my 4 x 4 Ranger. The input shaft is turning but the two output shafts are not. Did I lose all the gear teeth or could something else in there break? I don't know much about differentials. I will have to remove it anyway so I will probably find out my self what went wrong. Would I be better off trying to fix the one I have or should I just look for a used one to replace it? Thanks
