Ah, now that makes some sense.

Five things come to mind.

1. Rear ends out of school busses often have more highway gears (light load) particularly later model stuff (post 90) or mis 70's.
2. there are some direct or overdrive transmissions available for your package. I'm not up on them but try the big truck forums on www.stovebolt.com or fullsizechevy.com as starters. Suspect $$.
3. Two speed rear making sure gear ratio is better.
4. Swap in a 350 chevy with a 700R4 (since you're not pushing GVW loads...).
5. Gear Vendors Overdrive ($3k)

Personally I'd take my floor jack and start checking out school busses.
