the weakest point inside the differental is the spider gears...they run on a crosshaft between the side gears...much weaker than the ring & pinion is...do you have the wheels off???...the origonal selflocking hubs on those are pretty crappy parts...have seen many of those broken easily(would give same symptoms as broken diff)...warn hubs are better & milemarker hubs are better yet(not selflocking though)...those front axles are kinda scarce in the yards round here as the mudders keep tearing em up...
