6.2 Chevy Diesel doesn't like to start

My '86 6.2L 3/4 ton Chevy 4x4 does not like to start when cold, even on 80 degree days. A shot of WD40 & she's off and running. What do you think the problem may be? Is there some part that I should repair/ replace? I am not looking forward to winter weather with this truck. It will not be garaged.
