Externally, its tough. If you can see the back flange of the crank, the 390 has a square notch and maybe a half-moon cutout. the 360 has just the half-moon. you can also check the strok by dropping a 18" length of wire down the spark plug hole and rolling the engine over by hand. 3.50 stroke is a 360, 3.78 stroke is a 390. The 352 is cast in all FE blocks since they were all based on the 352 and use the same block.
