I had a similar problem with my '48 GMC (with '58 235). I fought that thing until it drove me stark staring nuts. It turned out the fuel filter was partially plugged, and the fuel pump was too weak to get the gas through. After "cooling off" enough fuel had gotten through the crummy filter to fill the carb bowl, and away it would go again. For a while. Now as I re-read your post, you've covered most of that. Check that short rubber fuel line by the fuel pump and be sure it hasn't collapsed inside. Also check the fuel flow by taking the fuel line off the carb, aim it into a quart can, and turning the engine over. You should get a full stream that would squirt about 2 feet if allowed to. One other possibility is a small piece of crud in the carb bowl that gets in the jet every once in a while.
