Rust is generally a problem in any older vehicle, and will be different from one to another depending on the conditions the vehicle has lived under. The early Ford pick ups had pretty strong rust in the inner fender areas. That may or may not bother you for what you are wanting the truck for. Check to see if there is rust to the degree that it is structurally weak any where. Brake line rust can be a danger for you. Will it pass inspection in your state? -----The 302 will probably be leaking at the real seal and at the valve covers. -----Probably you need to make a decision based on how much you really want the truck. Anything can be fixed if you are willing to put out the work and money.
