68 C-10 - inline 6 w/ 3-on-tree - several question

My son recently purchased a 68 C-10 longbox

Here are a few items...

1)___ the 6 cyl pulls strong - there is a lot of light blue smoke out the tailpipe once the truck is warmed up - and especially if it has been idling any length of time
- Valve guide seals??
- how difficult for a weekend mechanic to repair??

2)___ 3 spd - the shifter slips between the 1-R and 2-3 plates on the column shifting - and gets jammed

- what are the clearances supposed to be between the 1-R and 2-3 linkage shifting plates?
- how can we adjust or modify this?

Thanks in advance

Gord
