try carparts.com, then you select your vehicle and go to performance parts. Usually you can get a cam for less than a couple hundred bucks. High flow mufflers add nice hp as does headers. if you can find a set of heads off of a 350 that should increase valve sizes. Better yet you can find performance small block heads sometimes for good prices if you watch papers and traders, smaller combustion chamber. Hope this helps...there's so many things to do with a small block chevy..but not sure what you consider outrageous.
