I don't know if it'd handle the 12 ton trailer but it should handle the 9 ton O-K. We used to tow a heavy equip. trailer behind a C-65 Chevy dump that only had a 366/5&2 with the Case 580 backhoe on it. As long as the brakes & tires are good and the truck & trailer have a good sound hitch, safety chains and the load is tied down well with the right amount of hitch weight You should be fine up to 16,000-18,000#. What You are looking for is the GVCW rating... and they can get pretty high in a medium duty truck like that.
