1996 Chevrolet 2500 diesel

I am concidering buying a 1996 Diesel 4x4 2500 truck. Does anyone have any advise on this model. Good or bad would be helpful i know nothing about these trucks but I was told they et good mileage. And that I can expect about 300000 miles to an engine. Are these true? Does anyone have one and knows the mileage they get?
