Should have been no difference in transmission gear ratios between cars/trucks, at least for the same types of transmissions.

You didnt say what auto trans you originally had in there before you swapped in the Torino setup. The Torino was likely a C4 or an FMX. The earlier trans could have been one of those two or else a C6(depending on what engine was in front of it before the 351 swap. But the first and second gear ratios in any of the three autos would have been close, and of course high gear in all three is 1-1. Only other variable here is if it would have been an overdrive auto, like an AOD, in which case low gear would have been lower.

Lots of other variables here could have made the Torino parts feel "quicker". First, those 351 Clevelands were strong engines. Second, maybe you were mistaken on the different rearend gear ratios involved??? Also, different size(diameter) tires affect gear ratio too.

Regardless, it wasnt probably due to different transmission ratios. Go ahead and get the ol' girl running again and have fun with it!
