HEI Upgrade-worthwhile?Posted by F100Panel on November 18, 2007 at 11:41:05 from (64.12.117.76):
Eveything I've redone over the years uncluded upgrading to a modern V8 ( mostly Fords/hence the F100 moniker ) I brought home 1 last project thats really all new to me. A 58 GMC 450 with a Howe All Wheel Drive conversion. Comes with a 302 inline 6 cylinder. I thought about pulling the engine & transmission for an upgrade but the GMC fans think I'm nuts to want to change out that 302. It would be easier to run with it so... Upgrade the 302.... My first thought is HEI conversion. I was curious if anyone had done that & found it to be worthwhile? My truck is a snow plow rig/I ain't gonna race it or try to go 55 on the highway. I just want it to be a reliable starter in winter.... Any thoughts?
