Bob, fear of my tractor being laid up waiting for a Pertronics module is the very reason I fitted Chrysler electronic ignition to my 4020. I am stuck with an external resistor and control box, but atleast they are avalible at the auto parts store 20 miles away.
I agree on the firepower of a HEI, strong ignition to 5000 rpm, and good for 7000 + if equipped with hotter aftermarket module and coil.
