GMC High Sierra - Engine Trans. conversion

I have a 1976 GMC High Sierra with a 350 V8 engine and a 3 speed manual transmission. I want to replace the engine with a newer model 350 V8 with the fuel injection and computer in hopes of better fuel economy. I want to replace the manual transmission with an automatic transmission. Helpful and constructive advice welcomed.
