If you have an electric pump listen if it starts to make a whining noise when the engine is about to give out. You might have a small leak thats letting air get in or rust from the tank is just letting enough fuel to get through for start up and fills the carbuator bowl up. On some carbs that I've rebuilt the new floats and pins inside like to stick. When it starts to run rough knock at the carburetor bowl with a tack hammer. That knocks the little pin loose. You also might have a weak part of rubber fuel line that is collapsing before the pump.
