Gas or diesel?

I'm still trying to make up my mind on what to buy for an older 6 wheel dump. I've narrowed my choice to a 79 International gas 4 speed or a 83 International 6.9 diesel. I live up a long steep hill that most trucks struggle for power on. Which unit will pull a 22k gvw up the hill better? If they were closer i'd drive them and compare. The diesel is about $1000 more expensive.
Thanks Keith
