I'm doing the same project with a 1937 1/2 ton on a shortened 1978 1 ton.The '37 has a 112" wheelbase, while the '78 has a 131.5" wheelbase,so the 1 ton frame has to be shortened to the proper length in the area that is aft of where the cab is mounted. This area should be reinforced with 1/4" to 3/8" plate, inside and outside, plus on the top and bottom of the frame rails.Keep the beads small to avoid warping and check and recheck alignment before, during and after welding with a straight edge metal ruler. Also, measure front to rear total length of the frame rails to ensure equal length on both sides. When you're done it's a good time to sandblast the frame and give it a spray on Rhino bedliner type coating before reassembling everything,You'll be glad later for this detailing, even though it will cost you more than paint.Put the truck together before sizing, cutting, and rewelding/balancing your driveshaft. The cab must be mounted high enough to clear the trans and transfer case. When positioning the cab, don't forget to keep the shift levers and brake pedals in mind.Another area of concern is the steering column. You might need a ujoint or two to line it all up.Good luck.
