I just bought a Chevy 1 ton. I don't really know what year the drivetrain is. It has about a 77 cab on it, but has drum brakes and split rims. I figure it's probably a mid to late 60's, but that's just a guess. Anyway, the trans whines pretty loud at higher rpm in any gear. It's noticeable almost immediately in granny and first and if you wind out second and even third it's very noticeable. And the shifter has a lot of play in it. I haven't checked the dope yet, will do that first thing tomorrow and update this post. I have a feeling it is going to be a bearing or worse. I have never been in one of these transmissions although I have rebuilt a lot of automatics and a few manuals.
Anyone care to share some tips?
Is there a kit or something for the shifter?
How can I identify this trans in order to buy bearings and seals before I take it out of the truck?

Thanks!!
DR
