The 366-427 big block in those years has a lot of under hood heat and those big ex manifolds/headers right by the plug wires. They tend to be very hard on plug wires with cap, rotor, coil following close behind. Our local small town bulk propane outfit has an early- mid 80's 366 chevy running on propane which ignites harder than gasoline. Ignition tune ups on that truck seem to happen every 6 months when the spitting and backfire gets too bad. Usually takes a set of plug wires, cap and rotor to get it running right again. several other gas burning models in the area including one of mine also have cronic ignition problems. In farm grain truck use, plugs seem to be done at about 6000 miles.
