Can you run a hot wire directly to the input on the coil and have it work? Also, this is reaching kind of far back, but I had a 1975 Pinto in around 1983. It developed a lot of starter problems in the winter. There was some kind of electrical box in the passenger kick panel that was frozen and packed with ice and snow. The seat belts seemed to be run through it as well as the ignition. I ran some hot wires to the underside of the dashboard and bypassed the box to get by for the winter. And I was working a ski lift that winter, very cold and windy at the top of the hill but that's another story.
