check out a couple of things, see if you have good vacuum to the vacuum advance on the distributor,[ this should be manifold vacuum, not off the carb] then make sure the vacuum advance itself in the distributor is working, not rusted solid or missing springs, then, what is the altitude where you are? try advancing the timing just a few degrees, and see if it runs "easier" post back
