The slant six is probably a 225, as I only think they put 170's in the Chrysler compact cars. I have owned several slant 6's and they are a very robust, long lasting engine. It should work fine in the little dump truck, although I doubt that you will want to drive it down the freeway much. The rear gears are likely very steep and top speed quite low. The 225's have a long stroke and produce good low end torque. With the granny low 4 speed you probably have, it should pull most any load out of a hole, although not fast. I had no particular problems with my slant 6's. They can leak oil around the distributor and oil pump, but usually this can be fixed with a new gasket or O ring. If your truck does not have a PCV system, I would install one to keep condensation and sludge buildup down. The later Chrysler electonic ignition works better than the point distributor, but you might have to change the alternator over to the later model to get the ignition to work right. The other thing I would consider doing is changing the master cylinder over to a dual chamber model and making sure all the brakes are in great condition. I have had a single chamber master cylinder go bad, kind of suddenly, and it is a horrible feeling to have no brakes at all when you need them. My emergency brake saved me, but it was closer than I like to think about. Neat truck. Like I said earlier, wish it was mine.
