Thanks for the reply. The alternator has a red wire (repalcement), a green wire that goes to the regulator and a black wire that goes directly to the positive battery cable. The amp gauge does not work either, where would I hook up a universal 2 terminal gauge to see if there is any charge? The previous owner did a real sloppy wire job on it and when the hood is open, there are wires EVERYWHERE, it is a big mess, something has to be wired wrong because the new alternator and regulator won't charge.
