If your truck still has the "truck rating plate"( the Ford plate that has the warranty number,W.B., color,model, ect. )that will tell you what the original engine was in the truck when it left the factory. The fourth digit of the warranty number should be a letter:
J 6-223 1BBL
B 6-262 1BBL
C V8-292 2BBL
A V8-330 medium duty 2BBL
M V8-330 heavy duty 2BBL
K V8-361 2BBL
9 V8-391 4BBL
G V8-401 2BBL
