I would agree, check to see if you are missing or have a broken vacummn line to your choke,, I would also do some PM on the pickup, check points/condensor and gaps, as well as some new plugs.. not too expensive to tune up these good old trucks,, I have a 72 work truck with a 350 and automatic,, had tons of transmission trouble with it,, found out myself that it was a vacummn line to a silnoide that was causing it, thats after a shop wanted to rebuild my trannie.. for $1000,, HA
