Late 60's sounds right for the change from clear to amber. During those years some had the mandated amber color bulb behind a clear lense, while later all lenses were amber.
Clear lenses would give you the stock look, while amber bulbs behind them would give anber turn signals which everyone recognizes in todays traffic.
